Fire Season Suggestions

The following is from Debbie and Casimir W. Grys, CERT Ham Radio Operators that perticipate in our Monday night nets:

Once again, we are now in fire season in Southern California

There have been over 12 brush fires in the region within the past few days. It reminds us that we live in a fire prone or mountainous area and should already have an evacuation plan as well as a contact plan established in case you are to leave your house.

Equally important is to have a plan for workdays when you may be far away form your family and home. A daytime plan for all family members; those who are at work, children at school, grandma at the ‘Home’; there are numerous possibilities that apply and it is prudent for us to have emergency plans for activities we frequently participate in; golf, softball, cycling, and hiking. Activities you enjoy away form home and loved ones.

Those of us living in non-fire prone areas may want to prepare for unexpected house guests who may not be able to make it home. Be ready to assist the emergency services with cases of bottled water, the ever-popular box of donuts, or other food to refresh the battle weary firefighters.

Commuters who have a long drive, further than you can walk in a few hours can be prepared by having a go-bags equipped with a change of clothes, toiletries, medications an extra pare of glasses, things you need every day that you may take for granted. Do you have a fire extinguisher in your vehicle? If you do not know how to use it, learn. If your car will never burn someone else’s will, be ready!
